Vibration Analysis: Spotting Bearing and Alignment Problems Before Breakdown

A breakdown that arrives without warning is the most expensive kind. Often, though, the equipment was giving signs for some time. Vibration analysis is one way of reading them.

    What vibration analysis is

Vibration analysis looks at how rotating equipment, such as a motor, pump, gearbox or fan, is vibrating. Changes in vibration can indicate developing problems, including with bearings, alignment and balance.

    Why it helps

Finding a problem before it becomes a failure lets you plan the repair for a time that suits you, rather than reacting to a stoppage. It can also help identify what is behind the vibration, so the fix addresses the cause.

    What can follow

If analysis points to an alignment problem, laser alignment can address it. If it points to unbalance, dynamic balancing can address it. If it points to a failing motor, pump or gearbox, repair or overhaul can follow. At EES Electro-Mechanical, those services sit within the same business, so the findings can lead straight to the work.
