The repair was done and the equipment went back into service. Then the vibration came back. It is frustrating, because it feels as though the work did not hold.
Why vibration can return
Vibration has more than one source. A repaired motor, pump or gearbox can still vibrate if the rotating parts are not balanced, or if the equipment it is coupled to is not properly aligned. If those causes are not dealt with, the vibration can come back even after a good repair.
Dynamic balancing
Dynamic balancing deals with uneven weight distribution in rotating parts, which can cause vibration.
Laser alignment
Laser alignment lines up the shafts of coupled machines, such as a motor and the pump or gearbox it drives.
Why it helps to have it all in one place
When repair, balancing and alignment come from different suppliers, nobody owns the result. At EES Electro-Mechanical, laser alignment is covered by the same team as motor rewinds, gearbox refurbishment, and drives and controls. You deal with one point of contact, and one accountable engineer is responsible for each job.
